GANGS & GUNS

presents candid interviews with law enforcement, educators, gang members, and victims. This three-part documentary offers a sober view of gang life and the horrific toll that gang-related crime takes on children, families, schools, and our communities.

Gangs & Guns addresses the myth that gang members are only inner city kids from poor broken homes. Why are young men lured into this criminal lifestyle at such alarming rate? Is it the money and power?  Their family life? Is the media to blame? How do we identify youth at risk of gang involvement?

Gangs & Guns addresses these and other critical questions and encourages a holistic and cooperative community approach.

Education and collaboration among the key stakeholders - parents, educators, community workers, police, and government - are the most effective tools to combat gangs and to get the guns off the street.

Odd Squad Productions - Our History & Background

Odd Squad Productions is a non-profit society and charitable organization which was created in 1997 by seven Vancouver City Police officers.
OSP developed a unique approach to community policing, crime prevention, and public education that addresses some of the major social problems affecting our community. Odd Squad’s approach to tackling these issues is accomplished by using reality-based/documentary video imagery as an educational tool. Having a close connection to the streets of the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver (DTES) has given OSP access to the real life, and often tragic stories, that are at the core of the productions. OSP ascribes to the notion that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". The goal of OSP is to educate and inform ‘at-risk’ groups throughout our province on the dangers of substance abuse and other anti-social and criminal behavior.
